So without further adieu, here are my… 🥁
Top 5 new year’s resolutions for cancer patients👇

1. Get a second opinion 🔥
Did you know…the original cancer diagnosis is found to be completely wrong for 1 in 5 people?!
(And in 4 out of 5 cases, the original diagnosis is at least partially, if not significantly, inaccurate…)
Don’t let this be you!
You might be scared to ask for a second opinion for fear of ticking off your doctor. I get it. You don’t want to rock the boat. But guess what? This is your LIFE we’re talking about.
Even the Canadian Association for Medical Oncologists recommends that all cancer patients get a second opinion…
You decide if not offending your oncologist is worth risking your life and future over.
Take what Samantha says, one of our patients who beat ovarian cancer: “You can’t rely on just one doctor when your life is at stake. You have to do whatever it takes to find the answers you’re looking for.”
Want the very best second opinion, fast? You can book a Precision Second Opinion with our lead cancer expert, Alex Rolland. This one step alone has been life-changing and life-saving for hundreds of patients. 🩺

2. Get a PET/CT Scan 👏
As I’m sure you know by now, CT scans are the usual go-to imaging tool for standard care.
But! They can’t even tell the difference between cancerous cells and non-cancerous cells! To a CT Machine, a lump of non-cancerous scar tissue looks the same as a cancerous growth.
And they don’t tell you how fast the cancer is growing. Aaaand they waste so much of your precious time. You often need several scans over 3-6 months to get any information, since they’re comparison-based.To top it off…CT scans have a dismal 70% accuracy rate.
(Read Janice’s story to find out why you should never trust just a CT scan for your cancer diagnosis.)
I don’t want you to wait 3-6 months for data only to leave 30% of your life to chance.
PET/CT Scans work very differently!
They provide far more rapid results with much greater diagnostic accuracy. PET/CT Scans not only show us where the cancer is but also how aggressive it is – and with 98%+ accuracy!
And results are available within just 24 hours of the test.
Just to clarify: we don’t make any money from PET/CT scans. They’re simply the most efficient imaging tool currently available (more accessible and affordable than a PET/MRI, and way more valuable than a free CT scan).
Sometimes you can even get your public oncologist to prescribe a PET/CT for you. To sum up…Getting a PET/CT scan is key to making sure your cancer diagnosis is accurate.

3. Get tumour DNA sequencing for your cancer 🧬
We now know that cancer is caused by mutations in your genes – and these genes prevent certain cells from behaving as they should. (Most people with cancer have at least a few of these mutations.)
The great news is that many new cancer treatments have been designed specifically to target these mutations!
Targeted treatments are scientifically proven to be more effective than standard treatment! And they have fewer side effects.
But you need proper genetic testing in order to know which targeted treatments are right for you…and for your oncologist to prescribe them.So tumour DNA sequencing (aka genetic testing) is the ONLY way to know exactly what kind of cancer you have andwhat treatments will work best.

4. Start strength training 💪
You might not know this but lifting weights and strength training (like squats and push-ups) can massively help to fight cancer.
Why is this so important??
Because…
Cancer cells are rapidly-reproducing, which means they need to recruit extra blood vessels to help with their high metabolism.
When you exercise with weights, you limit a tumor’s ability to hijack blood vessels – because your blood vessels are too focused on supplying blood to the muscles that’ve been stressed by the weight lifting.
Plus, exercise and weight lifting also increase lymphatic flow…
Lymphatic fluid is a lot like maple syrup – it moves very slowly throughout the lymphatic system. This can allow cancer cells to remain and grow within the lymph nodes without being attacked by the immune system. This results in lymph node metastasis.
The solution? To increase the flow of lymphatic fluid…and exercise is one of the ONLY ways to do this.
Needless to say…get cracking with the weights and training, if you can!

5. Supercharge your diet with nutraceuticals 🍎🥝🍇
Nutraceuticals are very different from your run-of-the-mill diet plan…
Because they’re based on your specific genetic mutations and use foods & supplements proven to enhance your cancer treatment or cancer prevention.
How do you get a nutraceutical diet? First you need genetic testing, so we know what genetic mutations are driving your cancer.
Then we design your plan based on the supplements and foods that will regulate those specific oncogenes (aka cancer driving genes) and tumour suppressor genes (aka cancer preventing genes). If you want to get started on a nutraceutical diet, just reply to this email and I’ll get you set up asap.

Okay…phew!
That was A LOT of info, I know.
But I want you to have a really good understanding of the essentials that you need to include in your cancer care plan – to make sure your diagnosis is 100% accurate AND to then make sure that your treatment options are the very best they can be.
As we kick off the new year, now is the time to do things differently.
